It was a mixture of reggaeton and pop music did not just bring interest in reggaeton but also brought attention towards Latin music more generally. In 2015 there were two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. But during the peak of Despacito's fame in the year 2017, there were 19 mainly Spanish songs that were included in the Top 100. In 2020, the number was 41. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017 famous artists started to work with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma to record Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. A few performers of reggaeton have criticized the shift to mainstream music in 2020. However, a brand new band, Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the development and growth of reggaeton.
